THE ALGARVES COURSES
PARQUE DA FLORESTA
Built on uneven, hilly terrain with distant views over a fishing village, the layout has bunkers, lakes and rivers that provide a challenge of great diversity.
BOAVISTA
Designed by Howard Swann and opened in 2001, this course is built on natural rolling terrain with hundreds of indigenous trees and palms.
PALMARES
A course of great beauty that blends beach and hilltop scenery. The clubhouse, between holes nine and 10, offers panoramic views of 25 km of the Atlantic coastline.
PENINA
The Algarve’s first course considered to be Sir Henry Cotton’s masterpiece. It has hosted five Portuguese Opens.
GOLFE DE MORGADO
Opened in February 2003, this course, situated in the valley between Portimão and Monchique, has wide flat fairways with pot bunkers and large greens.
ALTO GOLF
Designed by Sir Henry Cotton, the layout runs through two valleys. The giant hole number 16 is a 604 metres par 5, the longest in Europe.
PINTA
Situated near Carvoeiro in an old olive grove, Vale da Pinta is a championship course yet suitable for players of all handicaps.
GRAMACHO
Designed by Nick Price and Rick Elliot, this bused to be a double nine hole course. However, nine new conventional holes were opened for play in September 2002.
VALE DO MILHO
A short, nine-hole course, visually attractive and surprisingly challenging. Ideal for practising short irons.
SALGADOS
Situated close to the sea, Salgados and its lakes pose a good challenge for the technical golfer.
BALAIA
This executive par three nine-hole course opened in April 2001 at Balaia Village just east of Albuefira.
PINE CLIFFS
Renowned for its immaculate condition, this nine-hole course is flanked by impressive cliffs overlooking the Atlantic ocean.
VILASOL
The greta variety of trees adds special charm to this 27-hole course blessed with excellent facilities.
OLD COURSE
A par 73 set in beautiful, tranquil landscape that requires a careful selection of irons because of the wide variety of holes. Hosted the Portuguese Open in 1979.
PINHAL
Located in the middle of a pinewood, this course combines contrasting architectural concepts - British and Amrican.
LAGUNA
Situated next to a beautiful coastline and with water a constant presence, this course is an enduring challenge for any player.
MILLENIUM
This fine championship course was designed by Martin Hawtree and opened in May 2000.
QUINTA SUL
Situated in an outstanding resort area, the Quinta do Lago courses are renowned throughout the international golfing world.
QUINTA NORTE
Similar in quality and aesthetic charm to its sister course Quinta Sul but offering different challenges.
PINHEIROS ALTOS
A highly original layout with two sets of nine holes that have completel,y contrasting character. A spacious practice area popular with many professionals during the pre-tournament season warm-up period.
SAN LORENZO
Of rare and varied aesthetic beauty matched by impeccable upkeep make this course the true ‘pearl’ of Portuguese golf. The 18 widely ranging holes run past pine trees, lakes and beaches beside the Atlantic ocean.
BENAMOR
The first golf course to open east of the capital Faro, it lies in pleasant countryside near Tavira.
QUINTA DA RIA
This spectacular 18-hole course is located in the Ria Formosa Natural Park and is spread over an almost flat surface of 660,000m2 down to the Ria Formosa itself with stunning views of the sea.
QUINTA DE CIMA
Stretching southwards from the EN 125 road this layout, on a 62-hectare site is part of the same complex as Quinta da Ria.
This new 18-hole layout, the Atlantic Course, is part of a 170.hectare development near the historic town of Castro Marim, close to the Spanish border and the River Guadiana.
ISLA CANELA
Spain’s most southwestern course, just across the border, it is a challenging layout that requires a combination of big hits, skill and precision.
ISLANTILLA
Situated in the province of Huelva only 50 minutes drive from Faro, this 27-hole course covers more than 300 hectares.
NUEVO PONTIL
Opened in 2001 and designed by Alfonos Viador, this course featuires wide fairways, gentle greens and several doglegs. A one hour drive from Faro.
BELLAVISTA
Two hours drive from Faro and situated next to the Atlantic coast, this Spanish course offers sensational views, a perfect climate for all-the-year-round golf, and a strategic location next to Huelva.
